How to determine your TPACE

Your TPACE is the basis for calculating your pace zones and therefore for your training. But what is the best way to determine it?

Your TPACE (Threshold Pace) is one of the most important metrics in your enduco training. It represents the pace you can sustain for about one hour without becoming completely exhausted. In enduco, your TPACE forms the foundation for all workouts: you can control every session by pace and receive precise pace targets in each workout. To get the most out of your training, it’s important to set your TPACE correctly and update it regularly.

Here’s how to find your TPACE, where to set it in the app, and what to do if it doesn’t feel right during training.

Where can I find my TPACE in enduco?

In enduco, you find your TPACE here:

Profile > Fitness Metrics > Pace Metrics

Here, enduco shows either:

  • a calculated TPACE based on your race times, or

  • the value you entered manually.

How to derive your TPACE from race times

If you’ve run races before, enter your results in enduco. The app will automatically estimate your TPACE. The more recent your race time, the more accurate the estimate.

Here’s a simple guideline to estimate your TPACE from race results:

  • 5K time: Add about 15–20 seconds per kilometer to your 5K pace.

  • 10K time: Your 10K pace is usually very close to your TPACE.

  • Half marathon time: Subtract about 10–15 seconds per kilometer from your half marathon pace to estimate your TPACE.

Example:

You run 10 km in 50:00 minutes → pace 5:00 min/km. Your TPACE is approximately also 5:00 min/km.

If you ran a different distance, use online calculators or roughly convert your time. The closer the race distance is to one hour, the more accurate the estimate.

How to enter your TPACE manually

If you don’t have a recent race time or prefer to set your TPACE yourself, you can enter it directly in enduco.

Ask yourself:

  • What pace can you sustain for about one hour continuously?

  • It should be challenging but not maximal.

  • You should breathe hard but still be able to hold a short conversation.

  • You should be able to maintain it after 20-30 minutes without complete exhaustion.

If you are new to training or haven’t raced in a while, this estimate is a good starting point.

What if my pace targets feel too easy or too hard?

It’s normal if your paces feel too easy or too hard, especially if:

  • You’ve improved a lot

  • You were sick or injured

  • You haven’t done structured training for a while

If you also train by heart rate, compare your pace zones with your heart rate zones; they shouldn’t differ too much.

👉 If it’s too hard:

  • Lower your TPACE slightly (e.g., 5-10 seconds per km slower).

  • Listen to your body—training too hard all the time isn’t productive.

👉 If it’s too easy:

  • Increase your TPACE cautiously (e.g., 5-10 seconds per km faster).

  • After a successful race, update your TPACE accordingly.

You can adjust your TPACE anytime in the Pace Metrics section under your profile.

What if I can’t run 5 km without stopping?

Don’t worry if you can’t run 5 km continuously yet—everyone starts somewhere!

👉 Our tip: Start with a beginner plan. It helps you gradually build endurance, reduce walking breaks, and eventually run longer distances without stopping.

You’ll find the beginner plan by creating a new training plan in enduco and selecting “Beginner Plan.”

The best part: At the end of the beginner plan, we do a performance test together to evaluate your TPACE. During the beginner plan, you don’t need to enter a TPACE, as you train mostly by feel.

Why is the right TPACE so important?

A correctly set TPACE ensures your training is:

✅ goal-oriented

✅ reflective of your current fitness

✅ challenging but not overwhelming

✅ efficient at making you faster

Especially in enduco, where workouts are tailored to your individual data, a realistic TPACE is key to training optimally and making progress.
